Keeping with its tradition of recognizing outstanding educational professionals in the Las Cruces community, the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce honored two LCPS teachers and one LCPS elementary school at its annual awards gala Friday, April 6 at the Las Cruces Convention Center.
“The business community has always been very supportive of our teachers, students and staff. It’s wonderful to see these talented educators recognized for their hard work, talent and dedication,” said LCPS Superintendent Dr. Greg Ewing. “I’d like to thank Chamber President Debbi Moore and the Chamber for their continued support as a valued educational partner.”
As part of the annual awards ceremony, Robbi Berry, 5th grade teacher at Monte Vista Elementary, was awarded the Crystal Apple Teacher of the Year Award and Elisa Holguin, also a 5th grade teacher at Monte Vista Elementary, was awarded the Crystal Apple Emerging Teacher Award. In addition, the Chamber awarded Booker T. Washington Elementary School the Crystal Apple Special Recognition Award.
According to the Chamber officials, the Crystal Apple Education Awards are presented to an educational professional who puts the training of our future leaders as a top priority while exemplifying servant leadership. In order to qualify for the award, each nominee has to demonstrate consistent, active involvement and service, as well as significant contributions of time, commitment and effort for the betterment and education of our youth and future leaders.
