Free early learning educational services that promote school readiness by enhancing student’s social, emotional, language, cognitive and physical development will be made available for 124 New Mexico PreK students and their families who live in Las Cruces. Applications are being taken in portable 126 at Booker T. Washington Elementary, 755 E. Chestnut Ave., from noon to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday until July 30, said Dr. Maria Artiaga, Executive Director of Federal Programs for Las Cruces Public Schools.
New Mexico PreK is an optional early childhood program funded by the state which provides services to children who are four-years-old by August 31. To apply for the program, parents or guardians need to bring their child’s original birth certificate at the time the application is submitted.
Children will be randomly selected from eligible applicants on July 31 and parents are expected to be notified by August 3. Preschool classes begin on August 15.
The New Mexico PreK program will be available at the following seven LCPS elementary schools: Desert Hills, Hillrise, Jornada, Mesilla, Sonoma, Tombaugh and Valley View.
