To help ease the financial burden of back-to-school shopping for families throughout Las Cruces Public Schools, Magic 104.9 (KMVR-FM) is hosting its eighth annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive. The drive will collect school supplies now through Monday, August 20, at locations throughout Las Cruces, said Brigitte Zigelhofer, LCPS community outreach liaison.
“The goal of this drive is to make sure every kid in Doña Ana County has the school supplies they need for a successful year,” said Magic 104.9 Program Director Ricky Tarin. “We couldn’t do that without the outpouring of support we receive each year from the community.”
Over the past seven years, the drive has collected more than $70,000 in school supplies using school-bus-themed boxes placed throughout the community to collect school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, combination locks, calculators and USB drives. Once collected, the school supplies are distributed to K-12 students through the LCPS Project Link Homeless Education program.
“The ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign helps reduce the stress of the back to school season for some of our most vulnerable families, and allows students to focus on their education,” Zigelhofer said. “We appreciate Magic 104.9 and Bravo Mic Communications, and are grateful that they continue to invest their time and talents to support children in our community. The ‘Stuff the Bus’ drive has impacted countless students and families over the years.”
Currently, there are three donation sites: Barnett’s Las Cruces Harley Davidson, 2600 Lakeside Drive; Bravo Mic Communications, 101 Perkins Drive; and the Las Cruces Public Schools Administration Building, 505 Main Street, Suite 249. Listen to Magic 104.9 for additional drop-off opportunities during live remote broadcasts.
