Thanks to generous donations this summer from Adams Radio Group of Las Cruces, Bravo Mic Communications/Magic 104.9 (KMVR-FM), the Las Cruces Kiwanis Club, Mesilla Park Community Church, Mesilla Valley Hospital and NASA White Sands Complex, hundreds of students throughout Las Cruces Public Schools started the 2018-19 school year with new backpacks, notebooks, pens and a variety of other school supplies.

“I truly believe that it takes an entire community to support our children,” said Brigitte Zigelhofer, LCPS community outreach liaison. “Each year, our community never fails to come together in order to see that all of our students have the tools they need to be successful.”

In total, the seven separate school supply donations brought in more than $5,000 worth of school supplies for LCPS which were distributed to economically disadvantaged students through the LCPS Project Link Homeless Education Program. Magic 104.9’s annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign raised more than $2,000 worth of supplies, according to KMVR Program Director Ricky Tarin.

LCPS Lead Family School Liaison Yvette Enriquez explained that the Project Link program was able to provide new school supplies to more than 1,000 students throughout the district.

“All of the families were so grateful to receive the donations,” Enriquez said. “Many of the backpacks were stuffed so full of supplies, the students needed help carrying them.”

Enriquez said that, in addition to the donations from local businesses and organizations, Project Link has also received donations from several generous individuals.
