Mesilla Valley Transportation will host its 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Red Hawk Golf Club in Las Cruces. MVT has selected the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation as the beneficiary of this year’s tournament. The funding will go directly into mini-grants which will be awarded to teachers throughout the district for classroom supplies.
Each year Mesilla Valley Transportation selects a different charity to help accomplish its goals that would have otherwise lacked the financial support needed. In the tournament’s second year, Royal Jones, CEO and President of Mesilla Valley Transportation, decided the tournament would select a different local charity each year as a way to make a difference in the Las Cruces community. Mesilla Valley Transportation has generously hosted tournaments to benefit charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope. Last year, the 3rd Annual MVT Golf Tournament raised $46,000, which was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region.
“Las Cruces Public Schools touches everyone in the community and helping teachers who help our kids is important,” said Cassidy Edmonds, Marketing Coordinator for MVT. “We are excited that we are working with the LCPS Foundation, and happy to know that an endowment for teachers will be created, which will continue to support teachers in the community.”
Currently, 69 teams are registered to play in the tournament. Registration will be held at 7 a.m. on Friday morning for a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Registration for the afternoon round will begin at 1:00 p.m., ahead of a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.
Tickets for the Mesilla Valley Transportation fundraiser are being sold for $2.00 each at MVT, 3590 W. Picacho Ave. Tickets can be purchased between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Wednesday September 26. Prizes include $300 cash, $750 of merchandise credit at Red Hawk Pro Golf Shop and $1,000 in credit at Discount Tire Company. Winners will be selected at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, following the tournament. All winners will be contacted by phone.
