Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Greg Ewing on Tuesday hosted a Custodian Appreciation Breakfast to recognize the hard work and dedication of the district’s custodians.
Ewing joined school board members and school administrators in thanking the employees for the critical role they play in their school communities.
“I think of myself as teacher first,” Ewing said. “And I certainly understand how difficult your job is. Every day, you do so much more than your job description would suggest — and we really want to make sure you understand how much we appreciate all that you do for the school communities and students you serve.”
Las Cruces Public School Board of Education President Ed Frank also addressed the custodians, and, in Spanish, Vice-President Terrie Dallman expressed her appreciation as well.
“We certainly appreciate that you keep our schools clean and safe,” said Frank. “But I have also seen the way you engage with students, and so often go far beyond the ‘call of duty’ — when a soccer ball ends up on a roof, or a student’s retainer is accidentally thrown away. We know that your job is not an easy one, and each new day presents unexpected new challenges.”
The breakfast was sponsored by Kimberly-Clark Professional, Hillyard, Karcher and Brady.
