At Tuesday night’s regularly-scheduled school board meeting, an update was provided to the board regarding the status of Columbia Elementary. The board has authorized district administrators to move forward with having architectural plans developed to remodel and remediate the current school building at its existing location.
While the architectural designs are being developed, a geotechnical survey will be conducted to assure that the land the school sits on is geologically sound.
The results of that survey will be reported back to the school board. If the results indicate any reasons for concern, the board may revisit the idea of repairing the school. If there are no concerns about the land the school currently occupies, remediation and remodeling will begin in a timely manner.
We will continue to share updates as we receive more information from architects, consultants and engineers, and we will keep the community informed as to the projected timeline for completion.
The health and safety of students and staff remain our top priority throughout this process, and we appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to arrive at the most suitable, long-term solution.
