Abeni Kelsey, a sophomore from Arrowhead Park Medical Academy, and Ammerece Michel, a ninth-grader from Rio Grande Preparatory Institute, recited three poems each for the New Mexico Poetry Out Loud Finals on March 10 at the New Mexico Museum of Art.

Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.

Abeni Kelsey recited poems by Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and Ernest Dawson. Her teachers are Kernie Zimmerman and Reyes Duran.

Ammerece Michel recited poetry by Mary Lamb, Louise Bogan and Ernest Hilbert. Her teachers are Ruleen White and Kelly King.
