Teacher of the Year (TOTY)

The LCPS Teacher of the Year program is intended to give public recognition to Las Cruces Public Schools teachers who demonstrate outstanding teaching and service to their school and community. Candidates should be skillful and dedicated teachers planning to actively continue in classroom teaching. They should take an active role in their communities, as well as their schools, and demonstrate professional poise and superior communication skills.

What is the Process?

Each school will select a “Campus Teacher of the Year” through a democratic process. School principals will develop the process and administer it appropriately.

Who May Nominate?

Teachers, building administration and classified employees may nominate one teacher at their respective campuses.

What Traits Should the Nominee Have?
  1. Be a classroom teacher assigned to any grade level, Pre-K through grade 12.
  2. Exhibit exceptional skills in conducting instructional activities.
  3. Be dedicated to the teaching profession.
  4. Be respected and admired by students, parents, and colleagues.
  5. Fulfill a leadership position in the school and community.
  6. Stay informed of current educational theories and practices.
  7. Be poised and articulate and project a professional image.
  8. Have the ability and willingness to make meaningful contributions to education.
How is the Teacher of the Year Selected?

Campus Teachers of the Year will proceed to the LCPS Teacher of the Year selection process.  The process will be conducted by the LCPS Administration in conjunction with a committee comprised on various administrators, principals, former TOTY recipients; as well as, representatives from NEA-LC and CSEC-LC units.

Educational Support Personnel of the Year (ESPOTY)

The Educational Support Personnel of the Year program is intended to pay tribute to the tireless efforts of our district’s outstanding classified school employees.  Classified employees are vital staff members who play key roles in creating a school environment that promotes student achievement, safety, and health.

What is the Process?

Each school will select a “Campus Educational Support Personnel of the Year” through a democratic process. School principals will develop the process and administer it appropriately.

Who May Nominate?

Teachers, building administration, department directors, coordinators, and other classified employees may each nominate one individual at their respective schools.

Who Can Be Nominated?

Employees who work in the following categories are eligible for the award.

  • Associate Librarian and Assistant Librarian
  • Nutrition Personnel
  • Campus Security
  • Custodial Personnel
  • Educational Assistants
  • Materials Management (Warehouse/Print Shop)
  • Maintenance Personnel & Physical Plant
  • Secretarial/Clerical Personnel
What Traits Should the Nominee Have?
  1. Full time employee, in good standing, who adheres to contract time and good attendance.
  2. Displays professionalism and courtesy to district staff, students, and parents.
  3. Be dedicated to their profession.
  4. Be respected and admired by students, parents, and colleagues.
  5. Works collaboratively to create a culture of respect and success in the district, schools and community.
  6. Have the ability and willingness to make meaningful contributions to education.
How is the ESPOTY Selected?

LCPS All Stars

The All Stars employee recognition program is designed to recognize those individuals in our schools, who are because of their contributions, invaluable assets to the educational setting.  Each month four individuals will be recognized at the Superintendent’s Principals’ Meeting.   School principals will submit recommendations for recognitions on a monthly rotation.
