On Tuesday, December 9, the LCPS Bilingual Community Outreach Department celebrated families during their annual posada, recognizing parents who completed beginner, intermediate, and advance English and Spanish courses.

The celebration highlighted the classes LCPS offers through its Language Academy/Empowered Parents Academy, including English as a Second Language (ESL), Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) and General Education Development (GED) courses for the community.

Superintendent Ignacio Ruiz congratulated parents during the end-of-year holiday posada. Families of the graduates were invited to join the festivities and celebrate their loved ones’ dedication to returning to the classroom and reaching their goals. Course instructors beamed with pride as their students earned their certificates, and the Bilingual Community Outreach team served regional dishes to honor education, culture, and perseverance.

“Seeing our students' progress from beginner classes to advanced courses is a powerful reminder of what happens when dedication meets opportunity,” said Breanna Santome, Family and Community Facilitator with the Bilingual Family & Community Outreach Department. “Their commitment not only strengthens their own future but also inspires their children and the entire LCPS community.”

Several parents who began their English and Spanish learning journey in beginner-level courses returned this year as graduates of the advanced classes, proof of their hard work and commitment. In total, more than 80 parents who proudly earned their certificate of completion.
