Tombaugh Stargazing Night

Tombaugh Elementary School families are invited to attend a night of stargazing and STEM activities on Thursday, February 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Tombaugh Elementary. 

The Astronomy department at New Mexico State University will be working in coordination with Las Cruces Public Schools to provide a night of fun for families under the stars.

Students will have the option to watch the stars from telescopes set up on the playground. STEM activities will take place inside the cafeteria. 

The night will be a celebration to honor the life of Clyde Tombaugh, an American astronomer who built his own telescopes and discovered Pluto in 1930. 

Kona Ice of Las Cruces and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck will be there to offer guests coffee and hot chocolate.

What: A night of stargazing and STEM activities.

Where: Tombaugh Elementary — telescopes will be set up outside on the playground and stem activities inside; cafeteria will be an indoor planetarium and snack bar.

When: February 16, 2023 from 6-8 p.m.
