LCPS Hosts School Board Candidate Workshop — Seats in Districts 1, 4 and 5 on the November ballot

Residents interested in running for seats on the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education will have an opportunity to learn more about the rights and responsibilities of school board members at an upcoming LCPS Candidate Workshop, hosted by the LCPS Communications Department.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex, 505 South Main Street in Las Cruces. It is free and open to interested candidates eligible in Districts 1, 4 and 5. To view a map of all school district boundaries, click here.

Topics covered in the workshop include: an overview of the election process, board district boundaries, how to declare candidacy, the oath of office and a brief orientation of the Las Cruces Public Schools district. The orientation will also cover statutory requirements of school board members, compliance with the Open Meetings Act and the Inspection of Public Records Act.

School board members are volunteer public servants and do not receive salary compensation. You do not need to have a student currently registered in the district to be eligible. Candidates must officially file for candidacy on Filing Day, Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office, 845 Motel Boulevard, Las Cruces.
