On April 22, academic ambassadors from each high school at Las Cruces Public Schools shared the spotlight with family and friends during the 2026 Academic Signing Day, a celebration honoring seniors for their academic achievements and post-secondary commitments.
Nearly 60 outstanding seniors were recognized at the annual event, held in the multipurpose room at Arrowhead Park Early College High School. Participants represented Arrowhead Park Early College High School, Centennial High School, Las Cruces High School, Mayfield High School, Organ Mountain High School, and Rio Grande Preparatory Institute.
Each academic ambassador was presented with a medal of recognition by their school principal. Students were celebrated not only for their academic excellence, but also for their plans to continue their education at colleges and universities across the country. Family and friends were invited to attend the event to share the moment with the Class of 2026.
Prior to the ceremony, students gathered with loved ones and educators to capture the moment through photos, creating a joyful and memorable start to the celebration.
Principals from each high school joined district leaders and members of the LCPS Board of Education on stage to honor the Class of 2026. The presentation of medals symbolized both academic dedication and the promise of future success.
Established in 2015, Academic Signing Day was designed to mirror the excitement of athletic signing ceremonies by placing equal pride and recognition on academic achievement and post-secondary decision-making. Each year, academic ambassadors are selected from every high school to participate in the event.
Dr. Wendi Miller-Tomlinson, Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning served as host for the ceremony. As part of the celebration, students wore apparel representing their chosen colleges and universities. Each honoree also shared their post-secondary destination and a personal highlight, including their intended field of study.
