The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education reviewed Policy JICA, Student Dress, at its recent work session on June 2. Ahead of a possible approval, LCPS will be hosting several virtual feedback sessions to give staff, students and community members an opportunity to provide additional input for the board’s consideration.
The proposed revisions are intended to clarify expectations for student attire while supporting a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment. The policy emphasizes that students should be able to express their individuality without unnecessary discipline or body shaming, while also outlining standards related to safety, appropriate school attire and clothing that may disrupt the educational environment. Parents, students and community members are invited to review the proposed changes (link) and share their feedback during the upcoming virtual engagement sessions.
Community members may also provide feedback by emailing input@lcps.net. Feedback must be received by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.
