The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education reviewed Policy JICA, Student Dress, at its recent work session on June 2. Ahead of a possible approval, LCPS will be hosting a feedback session exclusively for Spanish-speaking families to provide an opportunity for parents to give additional input for the board’s consideration.
A copy of the draft policy in Spanish can be found here for families to review.
The virtual meeting will be held Monday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. Spanish-speaking families are encouraged to provide feedback in the chat feature of the virtual meeting, or they can also give verbal feedback during the session that will be captured and translated for the LCPS Board of Education. Feedback is also being collected in English and Spanish through the LCPS public input portal, input@lcps.net. To join the virtual meeting on Monday, please click here.
The proposed revisions are intended to clarify expectations for student attire while supporting a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment. The policy emphasizes that students should be able to express their individuality without unnecessary discipline or body shaming, while also outlining standards related to safety, appropriate school attire and clothing that may disrupt the educational environment.
