Las Cruces Public Schools is inviting parents, students, staff and community members to help shape the direction of a new 6–12 school scheduled to open in fall 2027.
As LCPS begins planning the new learning community, the district will host focus groups Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Rio Grande Prep/MVLA campus, 2355 Avenida de Mesilla in Mesilla. English and Spanish-language sessions are available. Participants may register for one focus group.
The new school is envisioned as a smaller learning environment designed to support students continuously from middle through high school. By serving grades 6–12 on one campus, LCPS hopes to reduce the challenges associated with transitioning between middle and high school while building stronger relationships, a greater sense of community and more opportunities for students to thrive.
Community feedback gathered through the focus groups will help guide important decisions about the school’s mission, vision, identity and educational experience.
Focus group participants will be asked to share their perspectives on the primary purpose of a 6–12 school, the educational opportunities it should provide and the values and experiences that should define the school.
Topics may include college preparation, Career and Technical Education pathways, early college and career exploration, personalized and flexible learning, social-emotional development, student belonging and creating a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment.
Parents and community members are encouraged to register and make their voices heard.
