Las Cruces Public Schools is seeking five new members to the LCPS Equity Council for the 2026-2027 school year: one parent of a current middle school student, one parent of a current high school student, and three community members.
The Equity Council advises the Superintendent on strengthening academic outcomes for all LCPS students, with particular attention to students with disabilities, Native American students, English learners, and economically disadvantaged students. Members review district data alongside LCPS staff, hear directly from families, and shape recommendations for the Superintendent.
Council members serve alongside teachers, principals, parents, community members, and school board representatives. Interested applicants are screened and voted upon as part of the process governed by the current Equity Council. Members commit approximately two to six hours monthly, with occasional subcommittee work, centered on regular meetings held on the last Wednesday of the month from 4:45 to 6 p.m.
Everyone who is curious is invited to one of two community mixers—one in English and one in Spanish—where you can meet current members and ask questions before applying. Details to follow.
