District officials for Las Cruces Public Schools held an information session for parents and staff during a live webinar on Wednesday to discuss two calendar options for the 2022-2023 school year. Common questions were compiled into a Frequently Asked Questions document in English and Spanish and can be found here:

The two calendar options were first presented to the LCPS Board of Education during the Board of Education retreat on Thursday in a PowerPoint Presentation. That presentation was translated to Spanish for LCPS families and community members to review. Both presentations can be found here:
Each option includes enriched learning opportunities. The traditional calendar includes an eight-week summer break, and the balanced calendar provides for a six-week summer break with one- and two-week breaks scheduled throughout the school year. The traditional calendar forecasts school to start on Aug. 3 for Kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades to allow for smooth transitions to elementary, middle and high schools, and Aug. 4 for all other grades. On that calendar, school will end on May 25 and 26. On the balanced calendar, school would start on July 20 and 21, 2022 and end on June 1 and 2, 2023.
A Town Hall meeting with district and state leaders was held for families and community members interested in learning more about Las Cruces Public Schools’ two calendar options for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. The meeting was held in English and Spanish in one combined information session on Wednesday, March 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The recorded Town Hall session can be accessed here:
Upon approval of either calendar, staff will get an additional 3% raise for a total of 10% and a salary increase equivalent to the daily rate for each of the 7 additional contract days. (Annual salary/contract days multiplied by 7 days). This is on top of the 7% raise. The 3% raise + daily rate will not happen if neither calendar is adopted.
Reviewing the calendar for the upcoming year always happens around this time. The overarching goal is addressing what our students need right now, which is increased learning opportunities to address the impacts from the pandemic on academic engagement. For families that have prior commitments, schools can be flexible.
