The LCPS Bilingual Education, Translation & Interpretation, and Community Outreach team (BETICO) surprised Jose from Zia MS with an award for winning the district’s student logo challenge at his school. The logo will be used for our inaugural Sábado Gigante Educators Conference as well as the 8th grade Bilingual Seal! ¡Felicidades Jose! #ElFuturoEsBilingue




Congratulations to Kash Alley, the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from LCHS. Kash is a wrestler for the bulldawgs. He has a season record of 24-5 and placed 5th in state. Kash took 4th at the 2024 Conflict at Cleveland Tournament. Kash is hardworking, determined, encouraging, and has a great sense of humor.

Congratulations to Alyssa Sedillo, the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from LCHS. Alyssa is on the wrestling team, she is a two-time returning state champion with an overall record of 85-5. She took 1st and won Outstanding Wrestler at the 2024 Conflict at Cleveland Tournament. Alyssa has an outstanding work ethic on and off the mat. She leads by example by mentoring younger teammates.

The girls basketball game Mayfield vs. Roswell scheduled for today has been rescheduled for Saturday.

UPDATE: Winter Weather Warning for Monday
LCPS community,
The district remains in communication with the National Weather Service in Santa Teresa on a cold front moving into our area later today and continuing through Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly overnight, with below-freezing wind chills expected.
At this time, school will start on schedule tomorrow morning. but please send your students to school with coats, hats and other accessories (gloves, scarves). If possible, drop off students who normally walk to school or limit times at bus stops to keep students warm. School buildings will be open to students once they arrive on campus.
Please continue to monitor your email, cell phones and news sources for updates should the situation change.

Por lo pronto el día de mañana las clases empezarán a la hora de siempre, pero por favor, manden a sus hijos a la escuela con abrigos/chamarras, gorros y otros accesorios (guantes, bufandas). Si fuese posible lleve a la escuela a los estudiantes que usualmente caminan a la escuela o limite el tiempo de espera en la parada del autobús para que los estudiantes pasen el menos frio posible. Los planteles escolares estarán abiertos para que los estudiantes entren en cuanto lleguen.

As many of you know, Las Cruces HS Jazz Band has been selected as the 2024 NMMEA Honor Jazz Band. They will be performing at the NMMEA conference next Wednesday 1/10 at 4:30pm in Albuquerque Popejoy Hall on the campus of UNM. If you will be unable to attend the concert in Albuquerque, please join us for a preview concert here in Las Cruces, TOMORROW, Saturday 1/6 at 7:00pm in the NMSU Music Center - Atkinson Recital Hall. Admission is free and all are welcome!

Shout out to Gabriel Garcia, the LCPS student athlete of the week from Centennial. Gabriel is the captain for the wrestling team at CHS. His coach says he is hard working, consistent, respects others and believes failure is progress, never a loss.

Congratulations Zaira Montoya, the LCPS student athlete of the week from CHS. Zaira is team captain in wrestling for the Hawks. She is a great leader who encourages her teammates to do their best. Her coach says she's patient, kind and is always willing to listen and help others.

On Dec. 8, the team at Southwest Disposal built 180 bicycles 🚲 that will be donated to students across the Las Cruces Public Schools in conjunction with the Las Cruces Safe Routes to School program. 🦺
On Dec. 11, Southwest Disposal presented bikes to 30 children at Hillrise Elementary School and 30 children at Columbia Elementary School. ❤️
Today Southwest Disposal made their fifth delivery to Tombaugh Elementary School.
