Williams was the first African-American graduate of the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now NMSU) in 1937. After graduation, Williams taught at the Booker T. Washington School in Las Cruces for twenty-seven years before retiring and moving to Chicago in 1951 to join her sons who had opened a medical clinic. A pictured plaque of Williams is on display on the Legacy Wall at the Las Cruces Public Schools Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex.
