On Friday February 9, the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Language and Culture Division recognized Sunrise Elementary and Tombaugh Elementary during the “2024 Bilingual Education Day” at the Legislative Session in Santa Fe.
The award they received is the Bilingual Multicultural Education Program Recognition Award.
This award is granted to schools who apply and demonstrate improvement in both quantitative and qualitative data with a focus on academic success, creating a positive school culture and climate, pursuing student wellness, and achieving family engagement.

The following student council’s submitted portfolios to receive the Student Council of the Year Award. This award determines which council’s have excelled and demonstrated success in a wide-range of student council activities. Award levels are Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The district is pleased to announce that all of the LCPS schools that submitted earned the highest accolades.
The following schools received Gold status: Vista Middle School, Arrowhead Park Early College High School, and Organ Mountain High School.
The next schools received Platinum awards, which means they have earned the gold status for three or more consecutive years: Centennial High School, Las Cruces High School and Mayfield High School.
Congratulations to all of the winners!

A job well done for the Student Council at Vista Middle school, the team placed 1st in both the Delegates and Judges' Choice Competition in Project connection, which is a community service project they submitted at the annual NMASC State Conference. Way to go, Eagles!

Dear Parents and guardians,
Organ Mountain High School, Monte Vista Elementary School, and Mesa Middle School were put on a shelter-in-place this morning at around 11:30am due to police activity in the area. All students and staff are safe.
The shelter-in-place was lifted at 11:53a.m. Students and staff are safe. Please check your school’s website for updates.

Way to go, Yeh-Nhi Wilson! You are the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from Organ Mountain High School. Yeh-Nhi plays on the basketball team for the Knights, averaging 13 points a game. He was the MVP during the Holiday Hoopla. He made the team for All-District, All-State, and All-Tournament at the Albuquerque Academy. Coach Gonzalez says Yeh-Nhi is a main factor for returning to the Pit in ABQ for the State Tournament.

Congratulations to Helena Strawbridge, the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from Organ Mountain High School. Helena is captain for the Knights basketball team, averaging 9.3 points a game. She scored 16 points during the District Opener against Gadsden High. Coach Reyes says she’s a good leader who works hard every day.

Congratulations to all the LCPS teams who received awards and to all who participated in the 2024 Mock Trial Regional Competition this weekend in Albuquerque. Way to go APECHS, CHS, LCHS and OMHS!

Centennial - Selected as one of the Top 16 teams out of 40 to advance to NMAA State Mock Trial competition in March. They also had a Star Lawyer, Star Witness and a Top 16 Courtroom Artist selected to also advance to state finals.

A list of NMAA Activities happening this week for Las Cruces Public Schools! Good luck to all teams and presenters!

40 Teacher-nominated students had the opportunity to attend the Lovin' Leadership Conference, hosted by Mayfield High School. Vista Middle School students attended the event this week.
Students from across the district attended this conference, developing leadership skills, learning about the CTE programs, and exploring post-high school technical education programs.
We wish to thank Ms. Ronga and the Teacher Learning Center for the invitation!

This week was the Lovin’ Leadership Student Conference LCPS put together at Mayfield High School for students in grades 6-12.
A special thanks to guest speaker and former NFL player from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cameron Kinley. Kinley shared his story along with the adversity he faced as he strived to become an NFL football player. Many students shared how his story was impactful to their lives.
