Las Cruces Public Schools will host the inaugural State of the District Address from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 that will provide an overview of district goals and objectives across all departments. Ignacio Ruiz, LCPS Superintendent, will be sharing information related to student proficiency rates, budget data and strategic planning as the district redirects and refocuses efforts in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year.
The 2024 LCPS State of the District event is open to invited local dignitaries and district administration. It will be livestreamed to the public courtesy of LCPS.TV at www.lcps.net along with live Spanish translation. For more information, click here.


The Class of 2024 will participate in commencement ceremonies May 23-25 at the Pan American Center, 1810 E. University Avenue, on the campus of New Mexico State University.
Attendees will be required to follow NMSU’s clear bag policy, which means no bags that do not align with the policy will be allowed inside the venue.
Approved bags include clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches wide by six inches deep and 12 inches high. Small clutch bags are allowed, as well as soft, flexible seat cushions.

La clase del 2024 tendrá ceremonias de graduación del 23 al 25 de mayo en el Pan American Center, 1810 E. University Avenue, en el campus de la Universidad Estatal de Nuevo México.
Esta es la primera vez desde el 2019 que las seis escuelas preparatorias de las Escuelas Públicas de Las Cruces organizan graduaciones en el Pan Am.
Los asistentes deberán seguir la regla de bolsas transparentes de NMSU, lo que significa que no se permitirán bolsas que no sigan esta regla dentro del lugar.
Las bolsas permitidas serán aquellas de plástico transparente, vinilo o PVC y que no excedan las 12 pulgadas de ancho por seis pulgadas de profundidad y 12 pulgadas de largo. Se permiten bolsas de mano pequeñas, así como cojines para sentarse que sean suaves y flexibles.

While at the 2024 NMAA Girls’ Powerlifting State Championships in Albuquerque, the weight of the competition was no match for Taylor Rogers from Mayfield High School.
After earning 1st place lifting a total of 520 pounds, becoming the state champion for girls' powerlifting, Taylor’s state championship win makes her the first female powerlifting state champion at Mayfield High School.
Taylor believes in goals over plans and is driven to achieve another state title in powerlifting.

On April 12, the 2024 NMAA Girls' Powerlifting State Championships took place at the Rio Rancho events center in Albuquerque.
At the state championship, Centennial High School senior, Zantelle Rodriguez took first place after lifting a total of 780 pounds.
Zantelle has been involved in girls powerlifting for the Hawks since her freshman year.
As a senior, she has earned her team the state championship for girls powerlifting.

Congratulations to the 5A Softball State Champions, Centennial High School!
On Saturday, May 18, the Centennial varsity softball team played their hearts out as they led an extraordinary comeback in the heat of battle while in the consolation bracket, with hopes to clench the state title.
The lady Hawks not only defeated the Alamogordo Tigers once, dominating the first game to win 6 -0. But went on to defend their title, twice… taking down the Tigers and winning the State Championship with a final score of 6-5.
This State title is the second state championship in program history for the Hawks since 2016.

HOSA, which stands for Health Occupations Students of America, students from middle schools and high schools showcased their skills and knowledge in various healthcare-related fields last month at the State Leadership Conference and competition. The competitions included events such as medical knowledge tests, hands-on clinical skill demonstrations, research presentations, and public health initiatives. Participants competed individually and as part of a team, aiming to demonstrate their proficiency in areas such as first aid, nursing, medical terminology, biomedical sciences, and more. Winners at the state level will now advance to national competitions, where they will have the opportunity to further showcase their talents and compete against students from across the country.

Congratulations to the JROTC team from Organ Mountain High School for competing at the NMAA state competition and taking 1st place for the Armed Exhibition Drill team competition.
A JROTC Armed Exhibition Drill Team is a specialized unit within the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program that focuses on precision drill performances with rifles. Members of these teams undergo intensive training to master complex rifle handling techniques, including spins, tosses, and catches, while executing synchronized marching movements and formations in front of judges and spectators. The Organ Mountain High School team executed their routine with flawless precision demonstrating their drill techniques and seamless teamwork to win 1st place at this year’s NMAA state competition. The Student Advisory Council for Las Cruces Public Schools had their end of the year celebration this week. The district congratulates all of the graduating seniors and thanks each student for their service!


Shout out to Luke Catanach, the LCPS student athlete of the week from Mayfield High School. Luke is a tennis player who lettered in tennis and soccer all four years. Luke is known to be a smart team leader who helps others on the court. Aside from tennis, he is a member of the National Honor Society and has an interest in computer science and engineering.


Congratulations to Ellise Jay, the LCPS student athlete of the week from Mayfield High School. Ellise plays tennis for the Trojans and is a three-time defending district champion. On the court, Ellise is a good role model for her teammates with a great attitude. Off the court, she participates in band and is a member of the National Honor Society.
